I’ve been invited by paleontological illustrator and comics artist James McKay to contribute to a new project based on the Dreams of a Low Carbon Future graphic novel, funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, and published in 2014. Dreams… was a collection of comics based on the ideas of school-children about what life could be like in a low-carbon future. The project brought together engineering researchers, school children and professional illustrators. The aim was –
…to develop engineering researchers’ communication skills, by enabling them to work with schoolchildren and professional artists to produce a ‘graphic novel’ (comic) that explores the children’s visions of a sustainable ‘low carbon’ future society.
Developing researchers’ communication skills through comics? No wonder I’m so pleased to be involved! Exact details are sketchy at the moment, but I know I’ll be contributing illustrations combining archaeology of the past – with archaeology of the future! It’s a chance to do a very different kind of drawing, and I can’t wait to get started.
