Paper’s finished – and the powerpoint, too. Quite like the title: “Whoosh, Whaam! Establishing a Theoretical framework for the use of sequential media in archaeology”. Don’t want to give too much away before the actual conference, but I’m going to be trying to set out a set of critical positions regarding the use of comics, comic strips and graphic novels in an archaeological context. I want to move away from seeing “comics” as simply a style to a medium in its own right – one with a unique communications toolset that can be used for specific purposes to frame particular kinds of information and narrative, and be used to reach specific audiences. And no, I don’t just mean “kids”.
Hope the paper will be well-received. The short presentation I did in October about trying to use comics in the Caribbean went down well – and I got a lot of useful feedback from the q&a session afterwards.
Anyway, I’ll know in a few day’s time…
