Chaosmos - Chris Boyd, 2010 (mixed media)

Translations No. 10 - Boris Zakic, (oil on paper/plexiglass)
Just been through the View 2 Gallery, on Matthew St. in Liverpool, and had a look at their CHAOSMOS II exhibition. Some great stuff in there. Particular favourites for me were Masahiro Tomoika’s kinetic works on flow and interference, Josh Roper’s luminescent acrylics and Boris Zakic’s extraordinary oil painting. I was really taken with Zakic’s work – a soft, lush realism and photo-inspired POV reminiscent of the book cover artist-illustrators from the end of the twentieth century. But the whole gallery was great – the space was well-used and confidently hung, and there were lots of other works there that really sparked off the imagination (including several pieces priced at £28,500 each, which I’m kind of assuming (hoping?) were typos…). A couple of collaborative pieces that really worked well, and lead artist Chris Boyd’s mixed media digital/painting/collage that was an excellent example of new and old media coming together. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Liverpool – I’ll definitely be going back regularly.
