The Impossible War, cover art - John Swogger, 2010 (digital)
Cover art for Michael Baxter’s The Impossible War, published by Star New Science Fiction Library and out in February. Just sent the artwork off for approval.
Always been kind of a fan of Mike’s big space-opera stuff, which he writes with a journalistic slant that brings to mind war reportage. Good to be doing a new cover for him. The last was Underdrummer, an uncharacteristically grim, block-busting dystopian fable. Impossible War sees him back to his usual themes of love, war, big spaceships and creepy alien races hiding dangerous secrets. The Txkth’een are typical Baxter creations – deadly and secretive, but written in such a well-rounded, detailed way that you can’t help but see them as characters rather than simply monsters.
